The Endocannabinoid System*

The endocannabinoid system(ECS) is built into every persons’ body. CB1 and CB2 receptors are spread throughout a person’s central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, brain and organs. When cannabinoids are introduced to the body from external sources, they bind to these receptors that supports all regulatory systems and restores the body back to homeostasis. The fact that our body has numerous receptors designed to receive cannabinoids shows how important they are for proper daily bodily functions.

FAQs About CBD

  • What is CBD / What are cannabinoids?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in L. Cannabis Sativa. CBD, found in hemp and marijuana, is a non-psychoactive compound. Therefore, it does not give a psychoactive high, but instead promotes various other non-mind altering results found from cannabis. *

Cannabinoids are found in the cannabis plant and interact naturally with human and animal regulatory systems.

  • What can cannabinoids like CBD do?

Researchers are constantly publishing new findings on the potential temporary effects associated with using CBD. Click here for a list of the most common and well-known. *

  • Why am I hearing of so many different effects?

We are all born with receptors in our central nervous system called endocannabinoid receptors. The connection of CBD to these receptors cause a wide variety of experiences and effects that vary from person to person. *

  • How do I find the right dosage of CBD for me?

Proper CBD dosage is determined by your central nervous system’s specific receptor make-up. That means dosage is different for everyone, regardless of height, weight, age, sex, etc. Refer to the dosage chart and information on this page for details on how to determine the proper amount for your desired effect. *

  • Does CBD show up on drug tests?

Unfortunately this cannot be answered with a simple yes or no because there are two different kinds of drug testing out there, quantitative and qualitative.

Quantitative testing refers to lab testing because in lab analysis, they break down all of the individual cannabinoids found in our body and shows a specific quantity of each found. For example, a quantitative lab test done on a full-spectrum CBD user should show very low, potentially undetectable, levels of delta-9THC(The cannabinoid that causes the notorious psychoactive effect of marijuana) and high levels of CBD. If the same quantitative lab analysis was done on an active marijuana user, the test should show results with significantly higher delta-9THC contents along with various other cannabinoids. Thus lab testing is the preferred testing method for those using CBD products.

The second kind of testing, qualitative, refers to the simple yes/no drug tests that have thousands of different brands available and are known to be quite inaccurate. Mixed reports have came from these simplified drug screening methods, probably due to the devices inability to distinguish one cannabinoid from another. If the device reads any cannabinoid, CBD, CBG, THC, CBN, etc. it would be very likely for the test to trigger positive for marijuana because it reads the cannabinoid as delta-9THC. This makes things tricky for customers. Even THC free CBD oils are not safe from these drug tests and customers using them run the risk of failing a drug screening.

Due to this discrepancy, shop owners cannot guarantee that any CBD-infused product will be able to pass any sort of drug screening. At Piedmont Green, our best recommendation is to talk to your employers, show them the 3rd party lab analysis for the CBD oil you are wanting to take before you buy if your job requires drug testing. Many of our customers have done this and had positive results with employers, HR directors, pain clinics, parole officers, etc.

  • What are terpenes?

Terpenes are oils within plants that are well known for their incredible scents, flavors, and potential medicinal benefits. Although terpenes can be found in nearly all plants, cannabis plants contain more of them than nearly any other plant! Cannabis’s sister plant, hops, also has high terpene contents and this is why hops are used for flavoring all the delicious beer that exists today!

  • What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate?

Full-spectrum means that the cannabis product contains the full range of cannabinoids produced by the plant. A full-spectrum CBD product means that the product did not have any of the cannabinoids removed whereas broad spectrum and isolate CBD products have removed the vast majority of the THC within it. Although this may sound like a good thing for those looking to pass a drug screening, we recommend practicing caution. There is much evidence of these broad-spectrum and isolate CBD products still causing people to fail a drug screening. When using ANY cannabis product, you run the risk of failing a drug screening that tests for THC.

  • What is bioavailability?

Bioavailability refers to the human body’s ability to actually use whatever substances we are consuming. Different consumption and processing methods of cannabis products can alter the bioavailability of the cannabinoids you are using. There are many peer-reviewed research studies that outline the variations found in bioavailability of cannabinoids but overall, when searching for a product that will work for you, we recommend trying multiple products with varying delivery methods to find what will work best for you. Every human body is different and we typically see a very wide variation in results from person-to-person.

  • Can I cook or bake with CBD oil?

Yes! You can bake with both CBD oils and hemp flower.

  • Can I give CBD to my pets?

Yes! But we do recommend practicing caution and looking into what other ingredients are in the product. If you see one that could be harmful to your pet, avoid that product.

How to Find Your Proper CBD Dosage*

  1. Step

Apply CBD oil under your tongue and let it sit for 10-15 seconds then swallow.

  2. Step

If you don't reach your desired effect within 45 minutes, take another dose.

  3. Step

Repeat Step 2 every 45 minutes until you find your sweet spot.

Tips:

  • Start low and work your way up on the amount you’re taking daily, increasing as needed.
  • Avoid taking CBD oil on an empty stomach, as the cannabinoids will bind to your system for potentially less than half the time.
  • Proper CBD dosage is determined by your central nervous system’s specific receptor make-up. That means dosage is different for everyone, regardless of height, weight, age, sex, etc.

In general, the following effects are typically experienced when you dose toward each level of your cannabinoid tolerance:

Lower doses: relaxation

Moderate doses: soreness & tension relief

Heavy doses: sleep promotion

All About Terpenes*

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds found in hemp and CBD products. They are responsible for its taste and also play a significant role in shaping the potential therapeutic effects and overall experience during use.
